Password Self-Service: Resetting a Forgotten Falcon Account Password

You can reset a forgotten Falcon Account password using any of the three methods listed below provided you have provided the necessary information ahead of time.

Reset using challenge questions

You can use this option only if you have successfully registered responses to challenge questions in Password Self-Service in the past (which typically happens when activating/registering an account). You will be prompted with two of your security challenge questions.  If you cannot recall the answer to one, you may try reloading the page to randomly select two of your questions again.  The answers are not case-sensitive but if you've forgotten responses, you will either need to use one of the options below or contact DoTS for assistance.

  1. On the Password Self-Service site, click the option for Forgotten Password, then select Use challenge questions.
  2. Enter your username and click Search to find your questions.
  3. Answer the questions when prompted.
  4. If you have not specified an emergency alert phone number, you will be prompted to update and confirm your account profile information, which includes setting up more methods for resetting your password as well as the option to receive expiration reminders.
  5. Choose and enter a new password.

Reset using text/SMS message

You can use this option only if you're resetting a Falcon account or student employee account and you've provided a number in your Password Self-Service profile for password reset codes.  This option will send an SMS message from 715-245-2517 to the phone number you've provided.

  1. On the Password Self-Service site, click the option for Forgotten Password, then select Use a text/SMS message.
  2. Enter your username and click Search to send a message to your phone.
  3. Enter the reset code from the text message in the box provided.  The code must be entered within one hour of being issued and is case-sensitive.
  4. If you have not specified an emergency alert phone number, you will be prompted to update or confirm your account profile information, which includes setting up more methods for resetting your password as well as the option to receive expiration reminders.
  5. Choose and enter a new password.

Reset using alternate email

You can use this option only if you're resetting a Falcon account or student employee account and you've provided an alternate e-mail address in your Password Self-Service profile for password reset codes. This option will send a reset code from dots@uwrf.edu to the alternate email address you've provided for password resets.

  1. On the Password Self-Service site, click the option for Forgotten Password, then select Use your alternate e-mail address
  2. Enter your username and click Search to send a message to your alternate e-mail.
  3. Enter the reset code from the email in the box provided.  The code must be entered within one hour of being issued and is case-sensitive.  Using copy and paste is recommended.
  4. If you have not specified an emergency alert phone number, you will be prompted to update or confirm your account profile information, which includes setting up more methods for resetting your password as well as the option to receive expiration reminders.
  5. Choose and enter a new password.
