Printing: Unable to Print - No PaperCut Popup to Select Chargeback Account

Issue: Sometimes I can't print. I don't even get the little box that asks me which account I'd like to charge.

Environment: Employee workstations, PaperCut client, selection dialog window, Windows, macOS

Resolution: The PaperCut client on each workstation is responsible for displaying the account selection dialog. If the dialog does not appear when submitting print jobs, reboot the workstation to restart the PaperCut client. Alternatively, you can follow the steps below to restart the client without restarting the computer.

(If the job is being released at an MFD, follow the steps outlined in the "Selecting an Account at the MFD" section in the Printing: Shared Accounting article to select an account at the device.)

If all else fails, please visit DoTS so that we can fix this for you.

Windows Systems

  • Restart your computer which will force the client to reopen. Problem solved.
  • If this does not solve the issue, follow these steps:
  1. Open File Explorer and check for the file pc-client.exe. It will be in one of these two locations:
  • C:\Program Files\PaperCut MF Client
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\PaperCut MF Client
  1. Double click on the pc-client.exe file to restart the PaperCut client on your workstation.
  2. When complete, check the system tray for the green PaperCut icon to confirm that the client is running:

macOS Systems

Open Spotlight and search for PaperCut.  Press enter to launch the client.
