Microsoft Office 365: I clicked a link in a phishing email

If you suspect an email is phishing, use the report email function in Outlook. If you feel you may have fallen for a scam, contact DoTS. If your identity was stolen or you suffered a financial loss, contact the police where the incident occurred.

Issue: I clicked a link in, or provided information to, a phishing email.

Environment: Login credentials, username, password, personal information, phishing email, social engineering

Resolution:

  • Change your password on our password portal, selecting the "Forgotten Password" option.* If DoTS noticed your account was compromised, we have already changed your password to protect your data and information.
  • Check your email account settings for changes. These changes could be an added account, a forwarding address or inbox filters.
  • Check your deleted items folder and see if there are any email messages that were deleted without your knowledge. If you notice deleted emails, you may drag them back into your inbox.
  • If you used your previous Falcon Account password for other personal accounts (e.g., social media, financial accounts), you should change those passwords as well.
  • If you have any bank account information in eSIS (e.g., financial aid deposits), log in and verify that the information is still correct.
  • Enable your account to use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). You can find directions on how to do this at go.uwrf.edu/duo

* It might be that after changing your password, you find yourself not being able to log into anything using your Falcon Account username and password. The Falcon Account: Unable to Log In article can help you with that situation.
