Issue: I am unable to upgrade my outdated Office package to Office 365 through the Software Center. The message I get is, "The installation of 'Microsoft Office 365' could not be completed because these applications were running:" and then a list of programs is displayed.
Environment: Microsoft Office, Software Center, university-owned PCs
Resolution: Any Office applications actively running may cause the upgrade to fail. Often missed are background persistent tray applications like the Send to OneNote tool. Additionally, special software such as Visio or Visual Studio may cause the upgrade to fail. In this case, DoTS must manually install the software.
