Logging into Zoom in Canvas

If you are joining your meeting in Canvas, your instructor may be using the Zoom link in the side navigation or have a page in the course information or announcements with the Zoom links available for the course. Check with your instructor on how to participate in course meetings.

From Zoom in the Course Navigation

  1. Enter the course
  2. Select the Zoom link
  3. Select Upcoming Meetings
  4. Choose the Start button for the meeting you wish to enter

If your instructor has set up a link for the meeting in Canvas, select the meeting link to enter the meeting for the course. Look for both office hours and official course meeting links dates and times.

Note: If you have questions on what media your instructor is using, reach out to your instructor at the beginning of class.   

Logging into Zoom Through the Web Portal

Some of these steps may only be required the first time you use the Web Portal

  1. Sign into wisconsin-edu.zoom.us

  1. Select Sign in. If prompted, choose River Falls and you will be redirected to Duo authentication
  2. Follow the instructions to log in

If you have not confirmed your email address,

  1. Go into Canvas
  2. Enter the course you want to use Zoom in
  3. Select Zoom
  4. Select Authorize

If you have not already authorized and switched your account,

  1. Confirm your email address
  2. Once confirmed, an email is sent to your Outlook mailbox
    • If you do not see the message in your inbox, check the junk folder
  3. Select Switch to the new account
  4. It will ask Do you want to Consolidate?
  5. Select I Acknowledge and Switch

Downloading Zoom and Joining a Meeting the First Time

  1. Select the link to the zoom meeting that is provided to you by your instructor. It may be posted in the Canvas Calendar, put in the Modules area in Canvas, or emailed to you.
  2. The first time you select the link, you will get this message in a web browser: "Please use Chrome as a browser, if possible." Select download & run Zoom if you have never downloaded the Zoom app.
  3. Once the download is complete, double click the .exe file to run it. You will see a dialog box indicating the Zoom app is being installed.
  4. Then Zoom starts.
  5. Select Test Speaker and Microphone to make sure they are functioning properly. Headsets will often have better sound quality.
    • You can also use a phone if you don’t have a microphone or headset. Select Phone Call and dial one of the numbers listed and follow the prompts.

You can choose to use the web browser to run Zoom. To do so, select Start from your Browser. You may have limited functionality in a browser version of Zoom.
