All employees are provided Windows or Mac OS computers. Only DoTS procures employee computers.
Who Gets Computers?
- All permanent employees, if deemed necessary by the supervisor of the department
- Limited-term employees (LTEs), part-time employees, temporary employees, and student employees - each of whom are provided a refurbished computer
Who Pays?
- Full-time General Program Revenue (GPR) employee computers are funded by the university computer replacement fund
- Part-time, GPR Limited-Term employees, temporary employees and student employees (defined as those doing office-type work for a particular department) get refurbished computers funded by the university computer replacement fund
- Departments are responsible for funding the initial purchase and replacement costs of the computer in the following cases. (Computers in this category should be replaced every 5 years.)
- The computer is a secondary use computer. I.e., you have a different primary computer.
- The employee is using the computer as a research computer. (This applies to student employees as well.)
- The employee's position is funded by a non-GPR account: Program Revenue (PR), grant-funded, or project-based funding.
Timing
- UWRF operates on a July 1 - June 30 fiscal calendar. This may affect the timing of the purchase.
- Upon receipt of the completed request and equipment, it can take another 1-2 weeks for a standard configuration or 2-4 weeks for any customized configuration or specialized software to work on our network. When the devices arrive and are configured, you are notified to arrange for pickup or delivery.

Computer Replacements (Recycling)
- Computer replacements for current faculty and staff are usually purchased during the fall term
- Full-time General Program Revenue (GPR) employee computers are replaced (at the earliest) every 5 years
- All other computers (dept-funded, grant-funded, PR-funded, or other) are replaced by request but typically every 5-6 years
- All computers have an established replacement plan
