The following preferred method will work only for accounts with usernames that end with @uwrf.edu or @my.uwrf.edu. If you have a guest account for wireless access, see the manual method below in order to connect to eduroam. NOTE: University owned MacOS devices also use the manual method listed below.
All versions of MacOS before 10.13 High Sierra are incompatible with eduroam Wi-Fi due to older versions not supporting TLS 1.2. The only solution is upgrading to 10.13 or higher. (Connecting to UWRF-Registered is a less secure option until the operating system can be updated.)
NOTE:
If you connected this device to eduroam on our campus before Fall 2023 or at another institution, check your system settings for an installed "profile". The profile could be in a couple of places depending upon your OS. The first place to check is by going to the Apple icon on upper left of your screen, select System Preferences, then select Profiles, usually in the lower right. On a newer OS, profiles are found by selecting the Apple icon > System Settings > Privacy and Security. Profiles are usually found at the bottom. If an eduroam profile exists, select it and remove it. (If you do not see Profiles, then there are no profiles installed on your device.) Once this is done, move on to the Preferred Method (below) for connecting your device.
Preferred Method
- Connect to UWRF-Welcome. You can use UWRF-Welcome as an onboarding network to download the app/tool. After successful configuration, the app/tool should forget the Welcome network or turn off the Auto-Join option depending on the device. (You may need to do this manually, see the last step for instructions.)
- Navigate to https://cat.eduroam.org (CAT stands for Configuration Assistant Tool)
- Select Click here to download your eduroam installer
- Search for River Falls and select University of Wisconsin River Falls from the list of organizations
- The site should detect MacOS; Select Apple Device
- The file should pop up at the bottom of the browser. Select Keep if prompted; then select Open file.
- You may instead see a popup telling you to go to System Preferences. Go to Apple icon upper left, select System Preferences, then select Profiles, usually lower right. Then hit install on the upper right when it pops up.
- Select continue to install eduroam profile
- Enter your full UWRF email address when prompted for a username
- Enter your password
- Select Install
- Select Install again to confirm.
- You may be prompted to enter your computer login to authorize the installation
- Click to Close the profile window
- Select the Wi-Fi icon at the top of the screen and select eduroam to connect
- If you entered the correct username and password combination, eduroam should connect
- If you do not connect and you think you may have entered your username or password incorrectly, you can run the tool again to configure your device
- Verify UWRF-Welcome is disabled. Go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced then remove the check mark next to Welcome or Select UWRF-Welcome and then remove by selecting the "-".
Manual Method
- Select the Wifi Icon located on the top menu bar
- Select eduroam
- Enter your username (Use your UWRF email for a username if not connecting with a guest account)
- Enter your password
- Select Join
