Garmin VivoSmart 3: Connecting and Syncing the Device

A smart phone is required. If a smart phone is not available, contact your instructor for alternatives.

 

The device currently used in HEAL 108 is the VivoSmart 5. Instructions for the VivoSmart 3 model (which follow) are similar.

The Garmin Vivosmart 3 devices are a required device used for HEAL 108: Health and Fitness for Life. Occasionally, these devices do not connect to the Garmin Connect app as they should. The following steps should solve most of these connectivity issues.

  1. Download the Garmin Connect app, create an account and sign in.
  2. Plug your Garmin device in using the cable that was provided. It will give you a message that it is charging.
  3. Many of these devices have been used by other students before so it is necessary to restore the device defaults. To do this:

(New devices: press the home button twice and continue with step 3d.)

  1. Wake the device by tapping twice on the screen
  2. Hold down on the screen for 2 seconds until the menu appears
  3. Scroll up through the menu until you see a gear icon for the settings menu then tap the screen to select it

  1. In the settings menu, scroll up until you find the wrench icon then tap to select it

  1. In this menu scroll up to find Restore Defaults then tap to restore defaults

  1. You will see a screen that says Clear user data? Tap the check-mark to clear data
  1. After resetting the device, you will be greeted by the welcome screen. Swipe down to get to the language selection menu. Select the language you wish to use.
  2. Open your Garmin Connect App. Select the 3 dots in the bottom right corner, then select Garmin Devices.

  1. Select Add Device at the bottom of the screen
  2. Select Browse all compatible devices near the bottom of the screen
  3. Select Vivo, then find and select Vivosmart 3
  4. On your device select Pair now, then select Start on your Garmin app
  5. A 6-digit code appears on the screen of your Garmin Device. Enter that code into the field that appears in the Garmin Connect app.
  6. You will be prompted to answer a few questions to configure the device for your personal preferences. Answer these questions as you wish.
  7. After the questions, you will reach a screen that says Almost Done! Sync your device. Select Sync Now to complete the setup.
