A smart phone is required. If a smart phone is not available, contact your instructor for alternatives.
The device currently used in HEAL 108 is the VivoSmart 5. Instructions for the VivoSmart 3 model (which follow) are similar.
The Garmin Vivosmart 3 devices are a required device used for HEAL 108: Health and Fitness for Life. Occasionally, these devices do not connect to the Garmin Connect app as they should. The following steps should solve most of these connectivity issues.
- Download the Garmin Connect app, create an account and sign in.
- Plug your Garmin device in using the cable that was provided. It will give you a message that it is charging.
- Many of these devices have been used by other students before so it is necessary to restore the device defaults. To do this:
(New devices: press the home button twice and continue with step 3d.)
- Wake the device by tapping twice on the screen
- Hold down on the screen for 2 seconds until the menu appears
- Scroll up through the menu until you see a gear icon for the settings menu then tap the screen to select it
- In the settings menu, scroll up until you find the wrench icon then tap to select it
- In this menu scroll up to find Restore Defaults then tap to restore defaults
- You will see a screen that says Clear user data? Tap the check-mark to clear data
- After resetting the device, you will be greeted by the welcome screen. Swipe down to get to the language selection menu. Select the language you wish to use.
- Open your Garmin Connect App. Select the 3 dots in the bottom right corner, then select Garmin Devices.
- Select Add Device at the bottom of the screen
- Select Browse all compatible devices near the bottom of the screen
- Select Vivo, then find and select Vivosmart 3
- On your device select Pair now, then select Start on your Garmin app
- A 6-digit code appears on the screen of your Garmin Device. Enter that code into the field that appears in the Garmin Connect app.
- You will be prompted to answer a few questions to configure the device for your personal preferences. Answer these questions as you wish.
- After the questions, you will reach a screen that says Almost Done! Sync your device. Select Sync Now to complete the setup.
