Turnitin.com and Turnitin's Originality Check tool in Canvas allow instructors to check student-submitted essays against a database of existing journals, books, and other written materials (both published and submitted by students).
Using Turnitin in Canvas as an Instructor
In the course in Canvas, do the following:
- Select Assignments in the course navigation
- Select + Assignment
- Name the assignment and add assignment details
- Under Submission Type, choose External Tool
- Select the Find button and scroll down to Turnitin. Select Turnitin.
- Select
Turnitin is now activated on that assignment once you save the assignment.
If the assignment already exists and there have been no student submissions do the following:
- Open the assignment
- Select Edit
- Under Submission Type, choose External Tool
- Select the Find button and scroll down to Turnitin. Select Turnitin.
- Select
Note: If students have already submitted assignments, they will not be run against Turnitin and they need to resubmit. Any submissions uploaded after you have enabled it will be scanned.
