The Division of Technology Services (DoTS) keeps university computers up-to-date using automated updates. The following is a list of frequently asked questions with answers.
Microsoft Windows Updates
- Microsoft releases updates the second Tuesday of every month with updates made available beginning Wednesday.
- We stagger the updates Wednesday - Friday. You may not see the update immediately, but by Friday.
- The install deadline for the updates is 7 days once made available.
- There is a 24 hour grace period if the device was offline or something.
- Updates won't disrupt a computer in presenter mode (i.e. PowerPoint)
Mac OS Updates (beginning October 20th, 2025)
- The system checks every other week for Apple updates
- User will receive daily pop-ups, but the user can choose to defer for up-to one day, up to 7 times
- Enforce Non-System Updates: False (only Apple updates are pushed out)
- Pop-up if the computer does not have enough space for update
- New OS versions are pushed out after a period of time for evaluation in our environment. Typically we release new versions 30 days following the release
- A pop-up appears asking for credentials and will guide the customer through the process if errors occur
