Classroom Technology: Audio/Visual Standards
Classroom Technology: Audio/Visual Standards
Here are our standards for audio/visual (A/V) technology projects and operations.
Contact DoTS
with your A/V needs.
New Audio/Visual Technology Build
Any new classroom, meeting, or collaborative space may be equipped with A/V technology by request to enhance teaching, learning, and programmatic experiences.
A/V technology may include but is not limited to projectors, projection screens, audio systems (including speaker and microphone systems as-needed), document cameras, control systems, and non-interactive or interactive displays.
All new A/V build plans include a time line, budget, and a detailed list of any equipment being upgraded or replaced.
New A/V equipment is selected based on industry standards, reliability, ease of use, supportability, and compatibility with existing infrastructure.
All A/V equipment must also meet industry standards for performance and compatibility with commonly used multimedia formats.
Faculty and staff are provided with appropriate training and support on new equipment.
New A/V builds may occur throughout the year depending on their location but are prioritized during breaks in the academic year, including J-term, spring break, & Summer term.
Major Audio/Visual Technology Update
Periodic technology updates are conducted to equip campus spaces with updated A/V technology.
A/V technology may include but is not limited to projectors, projection screens, audio systems (including speaker and microphone systems as-needed), document cameras, control systems, and non-interactive or interactive displays.
The campus rubric for A/V technology updates considers the age, utilization, cost, complexity, service disruption, a risk assessment, and compatibility with existing audio/visual equipment, as well as the needs and requirements of faculty, staff, and students.
All update plans include a time line, budget, and a detailed list of any equipment being upgraded or replaced.

Faculty and staff are provided with appropriate training and support on updated equipment.
Major A/V technology updates occur during breaks in the academic year, including J-term, spring break, & Summer term.
Minor Audio/Visual Technology Update
Minor updates to A/V technology are conducted on an as-needed basis to address specific issues or requirements.
Minor updates are planned and implemented with minimal disruption to teaching, learning, and program operations.

Minor A/V technology updates may occur at any point throughout the academic year, but are prioritized during breaks in the academic year, including J-term, spring break, & Summer term.
Audio/Visual Technology Repair
Prompt repairs are conducted to address any issues with audio-visual equipment.
Repair requests are logged and prioritized based on the severity of the issue and the impact on teaching, learning, and program operations.
If repairs are not possible, equipment is replaced following the appropriate update plan.
Faculty, staff, and students are provided temporary workarounds, if possible, during the repair process to minimize any disruptions.
A/V technology repairs occur as soon as possible at any point in the academic year.
