Classroom Technology: Equipment and Usage

Get into the classroom before your first class and familiarize yourself with the equipment. Technology Services does not facilitate the use of the equipment.

Basic Instructions

  1. Set your laptop on the instructor’s station and plug into the appropriate display input.
  2. Select the Display On button from the instructor’s station controller.
  3. From the controller on the podium, select the appropriate display input, typically HDMI Laptop, Mac Laptop or Wireless.
  4. If you have remote participants, open your video conferencing application of choice.
  5. If you experience issues during your class, contact DoTS using the quick-dial option on the classroom phone.

Available Equipment*

  • Display connection. Whether projector or large display monitor, most classroom spaces allow for displaying from laptop to a larger screen
  • Audio equipment. Usually wall-mounted speakers
  • Wired/wireless connection to the display.
    • HDMI for the wired connection (most common on modern laptops) with VGA connections or adapters also available on the podium
    • Sharelink wireless connection
  • Instructor station/podium with a controller for managing inputs. Note that these controllers can look different but all will have the base functions listed below:

*Technology changes and rooms are continuously being updated. Each room is slightly different but most follow the above equipment standard.

Leaving the Classroom

  1. Unplug your equipment and power off the classroom technology using the Off button on the instructor station control.
  2. Sanitize any technology that was used or touched during your class.
  3. Make sure you take with you all your equipment and personal items that were brought into the classroom.

Be considerate of instructors that may use the classroom after you

  1. Turn off the projector and/or displays unless you see the next instructor come into the room and agree to do something differently.
  2. Adjust the volume level to an acceptable level.
