Canvas Non-Instructional Course Creation

Do you want to have your course in Canvas? (You should!) Is your course not in eSIS? Have DoTS create a non-instructional course in Canvas for you.

Before Requesting

Before requesting this service, gather the following information so that DoTS can help you better

  • Is the course academic (e.g., student related, student faculty information/collaboration, advising) or professional (e.g., training)?
  • Are students self enrolling or are you manually enrolling students?
  • Are you enrolling instructors?
  • What is the course code and name?

After Requesting

To add people,

  • Enter your course
  • Select People
  • +People to add teachers or to manually enroll students
  • Add people using email addresses
    • For student email addresses that return "No Matches", send the enrollment link to them to allow self-enrollment
    • If you'd like, you can send students the enrollment link and skip the manual addition of students in the first place

Notes

Enrollment Types

  • Student: read-only access to course-specific material. Students have the same view in non-instructional courses that they have in an eSIS-generated course.
  • Teacher: Read/Write/Add/Delete access to course.
  • Facilitator: Read access and grade write access. Facilitators cannot change course content.
