What is changing?

Around August 1st, 2024, all users of the Microsoft 365 A1 plus licenses (primarily instructional academic staff between contracts, emeriti, and honored retirees), will be changing to Microsoft 365 A1 licenses. Microsoft is discontinuing the A1 plus license as of August 1st, 2024.

The following changes are expected around August 1st, 2024

  • Users in this license tier will no longer have access to the Microsoft 365 desktop applications - applications installed on computers. The Microsoft 365 web (online) applications for Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint will remain available.
  • Users in this license tier will have a maximum mailbox size of 50GB.
  • Users in this license tier will have a maximum OneDrive size of 100GB.

Why is Microsoft changing these licenses?

What do I need to do to prepare?

What happens if I am over the storage limits?

  • If you are over the limit for Outlook, you will no longer be able to send or receive email until your mailbox is under the storage limit. Messages sent to your account will be bounced with a message stating "mailbox full" while your account is over the storage limit.
  • If you are over the limit for OneDrive, you will not be able to edit, upload, or modify files on OneDrive until you are under the OneDrive storage limit. If you stay over the OneDrive storage limit for 6 months, your OneDrive content may be subject to deletion.

Can I get more storage?

  • Unfortunately, no. Microsoft does not provide the ability to extend storage quotas for A1 licenses.
