In March 2024, the Division of Technology Services (DoTS) is starting the process of updating all campus-owned Windows computers to Windows 11. The deadline for completing this project is December 31, 2024. It is crucial that all computers on campus are Windows 11 capable by this deadline. DoTS will be updating computer labs separately outside this project.
Many existing campus PCs are not compatible with Windows 11 due to their age. Therefore, they either need to be replaced or removed from service. After this project's completion, these computers will no longer function in our environment, as mandated by Microsoft.
Will Windows 11 work on my computer?
Your computer needs 65 GB of open disk space. You can find out how much open disk space your computer has by logging into go.uwrf.edu/rotation.
We have until the end of the 2024 calendar year to replace these computers providing us with two budget cycles to manage this transition. DoTS is actively reaching out to departments with General Program Revenue (GPR) funded computers to facilitate the update process. Additionally, individual departments will be contacted regarding outdated Program Revenue funded computers. Replacement orders will be placed and DoTS will provide assistance with setup and configuration.
To proceed with ordering PR-funded replacements, departments are required to provide a 10-digit account string. If your department has not been contacted yet, there is no immediate action required. However, if you are aware of older computers that need replacement and wish to be proactive, feel free to reach out.
For any questions or clarifications, please contact DoTS.
