Older Android? Compatibility of Android devices can vary. Different manufacturers and models will vary on how they have complied with Wi-Fi standards. As our network receives upgrades, this may affect the ability of some older devices which are no longer updated or supported by their manufacturer to be able to connect to our secure networks. For example, Android 10 has reached end of life and Google is no longer providing OS or security updates. Connecting to the open/unsecure UWRF-Welcome network may be the only option for these devices.
HONOR 70/90 Phone? See Manual Method.
The following preferred method will only work for accounts with usernames that end with @uwrf.edu or @my.uwrf.edu. If you have a guest account for wireless access, see the manual method below in order to connect to eduroam.
Preferred Method (The secure method to set up eduroam on your Android device.)
- If you are in an area with poor or no cell reception on campus, you can use UWRF-Welcome as an onboarding network to download the app/tool. (Note: Due to recent updates by the app developers, the tool does not automatically disable UWRF-Welcome at this time. After connecting to eduroam, go to your settings and forget the UWRF-Welcome network.)
- Go to the Play Store
- Search for geteduroam and select to install the app
- Open the app
- Search for River Falls and select University of Wisconsin River Falls from the list of organizations
- Review the Terms of Use and select Agree to continue
- Enter your full UWRF email address when prompted for a username (me@my.uwrf.edu)
- Enter your password
- You should see a message that Wi-Fi is now configured on your device
- Select Close app
- If you entered the correct username and password combination, eduroam should connect
- If you do not connect and you think you may have entered your username or password incorrectly, you can run the app again to configure your device
- Go to your Wi-Fi settings and forget the UWRF-Welcome network if you used it to configure your device.
Because of the way the geteduroam app installs the eduroam settings, you must keep the geteduroam app on your phone. If you delete the app, the eduroam settings will also be deleted and you will lose the connection to eduroam.
Manual Method - without the geteduroam app (This method is NOT secure and should only be used if you do not have an @uwrf.edu or @my.uwrf.edu account.)
