Issue: I am experiencing an HDCP lockout when attempting to project copyrighted material on the display
Environment: High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, classroom technology, Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, etc.
Resolution: Broadcasting a streaming service such as Netflix or Pandora can trigger HDCP lockouts. These lockouts can be avoided through several workarounds:
- Acquire the media by contacting a distributor of the content. Low-cost or free options may be available.
- Acquire the media on DVD. VLC media player can convert DVD into .mp4 files which can be uploaded to Canvas.
- If the media is accessible to the students for no extra cost, link the URL of the media within Canvas and students can view the content on their own.
- Provide alternatives for the desired media for students to access (Chalmer Davee Library, River Falls Public Library, etc.)
