The Division of Technology Services reviews computer standard configurations at least once a year to determine the configurations that will meet the needs of most employees.
Funding of computers is determined based on how individual positions are funded.
Full-time GPR Funded Permanent Employees
New full-time permanent employees can choose a standard Windows laptop or a standard MacBook Air.
Laptops come with:
- Single external 24" Monitor (with built-in docking station for Dell, external dock for Mac laptops)
- Soundbar
- Docking station (Apple only)
- External wired keyboard
- External wired mouse
- Headset (stereo)
Configuration upgrades to these standard products lines need departmental or college approval/payment and will delay your order.
Upgrades may include:
- Larger hard drive
- Additional memory
- Upgraded processor
- External DVD player
- Larger or additional monitor
- External web cam
- Mono-headset (single ear)
- Additional charger
- Thunderbolt dock
If you have special computing needs, contact DoTS for a custom configuration and quote.
For existing employees, you only get a new laptop as part of the computer replacement program. A monitor and dock will only be replaced if it fails or it is incompatible with the new laptop.
All other GPR-Funded Employees (Part-Time, LTE, IAS, Project, etc.)
Part-time, adjunct faculty, LTE, and other GPR-funded project employees can request a refurbished computer at no cost. We will do our best to accommodate the type of computer requested but may have limited quantities available at certain times of the year. We use the newest computer we have on hand at the time of the request.
PR-Funded Employees
PR-Funded Employees choose from the same standard computers below and pay for them out of their accounts.
Special Use Computers
These are often computers with special software and/or hardware configurations. We try to stay within these standard configurations when we can. If you have special hardware needs, please contact DoTS.
Any special-use computer is department-funded.
Warranty and Damage
Our standard warranty coverage does not include accidental damage (eg: drops, coffee spills, etc.). If you want this coverage, your department needs to fund it. It also delays the delivery of your laptop. If you do have an accident with your GPR-funded computer, the computer rotation fund will cover half the cost of a replacement for the first "offense". Your department is responsible to cover the other half and 100% of subsequent accidents. Departments are 100% responsible for PR-funded computers, even for the first accident.
