University Computer: Your Windows license will expire soon

Issue: I am getting this message: "Your Windows license will expire soon"

Environment: Windows, university-owned PC, off-campus, remote employee

Resolution: There are two ways to resolve this issue...

  1. If you are planning on returning to campus soon, bring the computer with you and connect it to the campus network either via a wired ethernet connection (typically via a docking station in your office) or via the eduroam WiFi service. Within a few hours, the workstation will check in and renew the Windows license in the background. You may use the computer normally during this time; all processes related to activation occur in the background.
  2. Connect to the campus VPN service and stay connected for a few hours. This will allow the workstation to communicate with campus systems and renew the license. You may use the computer normally during this time; all processes related to activation occur in the background. If you are unable to connect to VPN, please contact DoTS for further assistance.
