Wireless Presentation: Using ShareLink

Summary

Wirelessly display the content of your laptop or mobile device.

Body

Most UW-River Falls campus classrooms and conference rooms are equipped with wireless screen-sharing technology known as ShareLink.

Getting Started

Turn on the room display.
Select the appropriate display input.
If you are using a UWRF Apple device, you can share using Airplay to the sharelink. Follow the instructions here:
1. Using Airplay on IOS
2. Using Airplay on MacOS
For other devices, enter the IP address of the Sharelink that is shown on the screen into a web browser in the format: "https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
1. If you receive a "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead" message when you enter the IP address for the first time,
  - Select Advanced
  - Select Accept the Risk and Continue

Step 1: Access ShareLink 200 Software & Connecting

Download the ShareLink software for either Windows or MacOS from the browser menu.
- The software functionality is identical between both apps.
Once the software finishes downloading, open it from the "Downloads" menu of your browser.
The software automatically prompts you for a four-digit passcode. Use the code from the bottom-right corner of the ShareLink start screen to connect.

Once you have downloaded the ShareLink software, DoTS recommends dragging the ShareLink software to your desktop for quicker connections in the future.

Step 2: Using the ShareLink 200 Software

Once you have entered the four-digit code from the ShareLink Start Screen, wait 3-5 seconds.
- The ShareLink menu automatically minimizes and a Play ▶ button appears.
Press the Play ▶ button to begin sharing content.

Overview of Each Button and its Function

RED: This arrow-shaped button allows you to expand and minimize the ShareLink software menu. After a few seconds, this menu automatically minimizes if it doesn’t detect user input. From this menu you can connect or disconnect from a single or multiple ShareLinks using the blue check-mark icon.

From this menu you can also add specific ShareLinks to your favorites by clicking once on the star-shaped icon. By adding devices to your favorites, you are able to permanently store the connection information for a specific ShareLink and will only need to enter the four-digit code to connect in the future.

GREEN: From this square-shaped button that is divided into quadrants, you can choose one of four corners on the screen to show your device’s content. This allows for up to four individual users to connect to a single ShareLink and collaborate all at once.

To return to full screen mode, choose the Full Screen option from the bottom of this drop-down menu.

BLUE: This Play button ▶ allows you to start sharing content from your device. Once you click this icon the first time, the play button will change into two separate buttons.

The first is a Pause button ⏸ that allows you to pause your current screen. This can be useful when you want to check another screen without showing everyone what is on that screen. To return to sharing content again, press the Play button ▶ once again and screen sharing will resume.
The second is a Stop button ⏹ that you can select to stop sharing content entirely. The ShareLink Start Screen is once again displayed.

YELLOW: This Speaker button 🔊 allows you to toggle the option to mute or unmute audio from your device.

Step 3: Disconnecting from ShareLink 200

To disconnect from a ShareLink, simply close the ShareLink software. This sets up the ShareLink to be ready for others who may be using the ShareLink in the room after you.

Step 1: Access ShareLink Pro Software & Connecting

ShareLink Pro Software:

Download the ShareLink software from the browser menu
- If you are on a campus owned machine, you can install it from Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Mac)
Once the software finishes downloading, open it from the "Downloads" menu of your browser and install the software.
- Windows users may receive a Windows Defender Firewall prompt. You may press cancel to proceed without issues or contact DoTS for an admin password elevation.
Select the blue plus (+) symbol from the upper-right corner of the application.
Enter the IP address when prompted.
Enter the Code from the ShareLink Pro start screen when prompted.
Press "Connect" from the application

Once you have downloaded the ShareLink software, DoTS recommends dragging the ShareLink software to your desktop for quicker connections in the future.

ShareLink Pro WebShare:

Select the "Share" button beneath WebShare from the ShareLink webpage.
Enter the Code from the ShareLink Pro start screen when prompted.
Enter a display name for yourself when prompted.
Select the Share button from the bottom of your browser window. A separate menu will pop-up in your web browser.
Select Entire Screen or the specific window you want to share and press Allow.
Select the Stop button from the bottom of your browser window to change the content you are sharing.

Step 2: Using the ShareLink Pro software

Select the blue plus (+) symbol from the upper-right corner of the application.
Select the content you would like to share
- Mirror Screen: This option will share the full contents of your monitor wirelessly.
- Mirror Application: This option will share the contents of a specific application wirelessly.
- Share Image or Video: This option will share a specific image or video you choose from the Windows or MacOS file explorer. This will upload the file to the ShareLink Pro.
  - DoTS does not recommend using this option due to the upload time.
- Share from HDMI: This option will share the full contents of your monitor through the ShareLink Pro's wired HDMI input.
  - This option may not work if the HDMI input has not been connected in a room. Contact DoTS to verify if you plan to use this option.
To stop sharing content, press the "Remove All" button in the ShareLink Pro software.
- If there are multiple windows being shared and you want to stop sharing one specifically, select that window in the ShareLink Pro software and press the "Remove" button.

Step 3: Disconnecting from ShareLink Pro

To disconnect from a ShareLink Pro, simply close the ShareLink software or your browser tab. This sets up the ShareLink to be ready for others who may be using the ShareLink in the room after you.
