eduroam: Connecting Personally Owned Windows Devices

Summary

Use eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistant Tool)

Body

The following method will work only for accounts with usernames that end with @uwrf.edu or @my.uwrf.edu. If you have a guest account for wireless access, see eduroam: Connecting Windows in order to connect to eduroam.

Connecting Windows 8 or newer.  (If your device is not at least Windows 8, see eduroam: Connecting Windows in order to connect to eduroam.)

  1. If you have the eduroam network saved on your device, it may be best to forget the network first. See Forget Network Windows below then proceed to step 2.
  2. Connect to UWRF-Welcome. You can use UWRF-Welcome as an onboarding network to download the app/tool. After successful configuration, the app/tool should forget the Welcome network or turn off the Auto-Join option depending on the device. (You may need to do this manually; see the last step for instructions.)
  3. Navigate to https://cat.eduroam.org (CAT stands for Configuration Assistant Tool).
  4. Select Click here to download your eduroam installer.
  5. Search for River Falls and select University of Wisconsin River Falls from the list of organizations.
  6. The site should automatically detect your Operating System Windows 8 or newer.
  7. Select eduroam to download the installer
  8. The file should pop up in your browser. Select open file to start the installer.
  9. Select Next, then select OK.
  10. Review the Acceptable Use Policy, then check the box to Accept and select Next.
  11. Enter your full UWRF email address as the username
  12. Enter your password and re-enter password to confirm.
  13. Select Install
  14. Once the profile is installed, select Finish.
  15. If you entered the correct username and password combination, eduroam should connect. Otherwise you can select the network icon which is normally at the bottom right of the screen and select the eduroam network to connect. (Note: The network may show up with a trademark symbol at the end on Windows; eduroam®, this is OK.)
  16. UWRF-Welcome should be automatically forgotten. Follow the Forget Network Windows instructions below to verify it is not in the list of known networks.

Forget Network Windows

  1. Select the Network icon on the lower right corner of your screen.
  2. Choose Network & Internet settings.
  3. Select Wi-Fi.
  4. Select Manage known networks.
  5. Select the network you want to forget (e.g., eduroam or UWRF-Welcome)
