Voicemail: Aging Times

Summary

How messages are deleted from the voice mail system.

Body

This article details the default aging (expiration) settings for voicemails that are recorded by our Cisco Unity Voicemail system. This includes messages that are in the Unity voicemail box and is synched with your Outlook 365 account. This does not apply to most departmental messages that are delivered as an email to a shared department email list. It is indeed confusing which is which from the receiver stand point. In most cases this applies specifically to personal voice mail boxes and shared mailboxes that do not deliver to email. Days are measured by calendar days, not business days.

Normal message rules apply based on when the message was last modified:

  • New messages that have not been heard are moved to the saved messages folder after 45 days. A warning is sent 3 days prior to the move.
  • Saved messages are moved to the deleted folder after 45 days. A warning is sent 3 days prior to the move.
  • Messages are permanently deleted in the deleted folders after 45 days. A warning is sent 3 days prior to the deletion.

Messages marked as "secure" will apply these rules based on when the message was created:

  • "Secure Touched" messages are permanently deleted when they are older than 45 days. A warning is sent 3 days prior to the deletion.
  • All secure messages are permanently deleted at 45 days. A warning is sent prior to the deletion.
