Virtual Private Network (VPN): Windows Installation

Here are instructions on how to install the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client on a Microsoft Windows PC for use with the UWRF "UWRF-DEVICE" VPN group. If you are using a university-owned workstation, the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client may already be installed on your system. (Disconnecting the VPN and reestablishing the VPN connection are also discussed below.)

Installing the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client on a Windows PC

  1. Open a web browser and go to
  2. You are presented with the following screen:

  1. Select UWRF-DEVICE from the drop-down menu
  2. Enter your Falcon Account username and password
  3. The following screen appears:

  1. Select the Continue button to accept the terms of use.
  2. The installation proceeds. If there are any errors with either ActiveX or Java components, a link appears which allows you to perform the installation manually. If installation fails, click on the link provided to download the software executable file and double click on the installation file to perform the manual software installation.

  1. At this point, Windows prompts you with a security warning dialog box asking permission to proceed with the installation. Select Yes to continue. The installation proceeds.

  1. Once installed, the software continues to connect to the UWRF VPN system and applies settings to the host system. After the installation has completed, you can see a checkmark in the Connected checkbox on the left-hand side of the window which indicates you have a secure tunnel established within the UWRF VPN system.
