What are the "Office 365 Client Updates" in Software Center?

As with the release of Windows 10, Microsoft has similarly changed the update and servicing model for Microsoft Office products. These updates are delivered via Software Center and are typically deployed monthly with other Windows software updates. This type of Office servicing enables new features to be delivered at an increased cadence while spreading out interface changes over time. Here is a typical example of a Office 365 client update in Software Center:

Determine which version of Microsoft Office 365 is installed

It may be helpful when troubleshooting issues to determine which version of Office 365 you have installed on the workstation.

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Open a blank document then select the File tab in the upper left corner.
  3. In the menu at the left, select Account.

  1. The version number of Office is listed next to the About Word button. The Channel information indicates the cadence at which you receive updates. Most workstations on campus are set to Semi-Annual Channel which releases new features approximately every 6-8 months.

On the first launch after updating Office 365, a What's New box will appear with a quick summary of the enhancements to that particular product. Click the Learn more link to explore the new features in more detail online.
